From October 14 to 16, the Rector of the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University paid a visit to Japan. The primary objective of the visit was to foster cooperation in science and education and to expand collaboration within the field of hydrogen energy.
During the visit, a meeting was held with Keisuke Nagata, President of the University of Tsukuba. The discussions focused on conducting joint scientific research, training specialists, and developing innovative technologies for producing hydrogen from natural gas. This cooperation is being developed based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the University of Tsukuba on April 7, 2025—ahead of the President of Turkmenistan’s visit to Japan.
On October 15, the delegation held meetings with representatives from the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy—part of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)—and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The delegation also visited the Kiyasu Research Park, a research center belonging to the Chiyoda Corporation. Furthermore, they familiarized themselves with the work of the Hydrogen Bonding Research Center (HBRC) at the University of Tsukuba and the TIAR research institute.
Special attention was devoted to the training of specialists. Currently, three faculty members from higher education institutions in Turkmenistan are enhancing their professional qualifications at the University of Tsukuba in Japan, as part of the “SDGs Global Leader” program implemented with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
This visit marked another step toward realizing the initiative of our Hero Arkadag to strengthen cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan in the fields of science, education, and innovative technologies, while opening up new opportunities for joint scientific research and the development of hydrogen energy.
