Turkmenistan has formally launched Phase 4 of the Galkynysh gas field—one of the world’s largest gas reserves, estimated at 27.4 trillion cubic meters—marking a major expansion of the country’s production capacity.
The State Concern Türkmengaz has been authorized to conclude a turnkey contract with CNPC Amudarya Petroleum Company Ltd. covering the design and construction of key infrastructure.
The project includes:
• A gas processing plant with capacity of 10 bcm per year
• Drilling and commissioning of new production wells
Galkynysh is being developed under a seven-phase strategy. At full scale, the field is expected to reach up to 200 bcm annually, positioning it as a cornerstone of future global gas supply.
This development reinforces Turkmenistan’s role as a reliable long-term supplier and strengthens energy flows across Eurasia, particularly toward China.
