Australia’s smallest town, Cooladdi, is listed for sale for 400,000 Australian dollars (approximately 280,000 USD), according to a report in The Daily Mail.
Cooladdi is located in outback Queensland (more than 800 km west of Brisbane) and is officially recognized as Australia’s smallest town. Its population is just two people. The town is being put up for sale due to the relocation and sale of the properties of its residents.
The future owner of the town, in addition to housing, will own a four-room motel, a shop, a pub, and a four-star restaurant.
Cooladdi was once a major railway junction. At its peak, it had a population of about 270, a school, a butcher’s shop, and a police station. The town’s decline began after the railway line was extended to another settlement in 1917. After the passenger service ceased, residents began leaving the town en masse.
