On October 7, the 95th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in Awaza. The meeting was organized by the Turkmen side and chaired by D.M.Genjiev, Chairman of the State Water Management Committee of Turkmenistan.
ICWC members attended the meeting: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation N.M. Nurjigitov and Minister of Water Resources of Uzbekistan S.R.Khamraev. D.A.Abdurazokzoda represented Tajikistan.
Also representatives of water management agencies of the Central Asian countries, the executive bodies of the ICWC – the Secretariat, the Amu Darya BVO, the Syr Darya BVO and the ICWC Research Center, as well as the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
Participants reviewed the results of water intake limits and reservoir operating modes during the 2026 growing season in the Syr Darya and Amu Darya basins, and agreed on water distribution and projected operating modes for the reservoir cascades for the 2026–2027 non-growing season. They also discussed progress in implementing the objectives arising from the IFAS summits of the heads of state, including the implementation of ASBP-4, the introduction of water-saving and digital technologies, adaptation to climate change, and the development of water diplomacy and scientific potential.
