Farmers in Turkmenistan have mastered cherry cultivation technology in a hot climate and achieved commercial production. This year, the harvest will be exported to CIS countries for the first time.
The fruit is being harvested on a hundred-hectare orchard complex at the foot of the Kopetdag Mountains, 140 kilometers from Ashgabat. Since cherries are considered one of the most demanding crops, the enterprise has implemented a modern irrigation system, meticulously maintained the trees, and installed specialized fruit storage facilities. Immediately after harvesting, the berries are cooled to prevent wilting, then sorted, graded, and packaged.
According to specialists, the complex processes 16 to 20 tons of fruit per day. The finished product is placed in long-term refrigeration units for subsequent shipment. The farm has previously shipped over 300 tons of apples to Russia, Kazakhstan, and Georgia, and now Turkmen cherries will also be entering foreign markets.
