On October 17–18, the 52nd meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was held in Baghdad, the capital of the Republic of Iraq, with the participation of a delegation from Turkmenistan.

The meeting addressed current issues on the international and regional agenda, strengthening peace and security, and expanding political, trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation between the Organization’s member states.

An important outcome of the meeting was the adoption, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, of a resolution entitled “The Role of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development in the OIC Space and Throughout the World.”

This resolution once again received the support of the Organization’s Member States, which confirms international recognition of the importance of the policy of neutrality as an effective tool for strengthening peace, security and sustainable development.

During the meeting, the Turkmen delegation issued a statement outlining the country’s priority areas of cooperation with the OIC. Particular attention was paid to Turkmenistan’s foreign policy initiatives aimed at strengthening international trust, developing dialogue and preventive diplomacy, and ensuring the rule of international law.

In this context, the importance of the proclamation of 2028 as the Year of International Law, initiated by Turkmenistan and supported by the UN General Assembly, was emphasized.

The sides also discussed expanding cooperation in education, science, and culture. Specifically, they noted that in 2026, Turkmenistan received observer status in the Islamic Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), opening up new opportunities for developing cooperation in these areas.

The Turkmen side also expressed interest in further strengthening partnerships with OIC member states in the trade, economic, energy, transport, communications, and humanitarian spheres.

Turkmenistan’s participation in the 52nd meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers and the adoption of the resolution proposed by the Turkmen side were further evidence of the consistent implementation of the country’s foreign policy aimed at strengthening peace, trust, and multilateral cooperation.
