A part of the original classic staircase of the Eiffel Tower, the main symbol of Paris, was sold for 450 thousand euros at the auction held at the French auction house Artcurial.
This historical part, which is 2.75 meters high and consists of 14 spiral stairs, connected the second and third floors of the building. This building has been in service since its opening in 1889, and was dismantled in 1983 as a result of the replacement of the old elevator system with more modern new elevators and renovation work, and was divided into a total of 24 parts.
According to experts, the bulk of the dismantled parts were placed in different corners of the world, including near the Statue of Liberty in New York City, USA, in the gardens of the Yoshii Foundation in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, and in Disneyland Park.
In France, only a few of these parts were preserved. The fragment sold today has been in a private collection for the past 40 years, and its auction has become a major event in the art world. Although it was initially estimated at 120-150 thousand euros, during the auction, the price of the exhibit, which is considered to be of stable value, increased several times, setting a new record.
