US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit in Miami, Florida, in December. He said he hopes the Russian side will accept the invitation. If the Russian President accepts the invitation, it will be his first direct participation in a G20 summit since 2019.
The visit could also provide an opportunity for Vladimir Putin to meet face-to-face with US President Donald Trump. They previously met in Alaska in 2025. Meanwhile, another important event the leaders are likely to attend is the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen, China, in November.
Russian state media reported that Vladimir Putin plans to attend the 2026 APEC summit in China on November 18-19. This will be his first visit to the organization since 2017. So far, US President Donald Trump has not officially confirmed his participation in the summit, but he has previously indicated the possibility of a return visit to China.
