A new bill aimed at regulating artificial intelligence systems and creating a special federal department in the US Congress has been introduced. Senator Bernie Sanders and Congressman Greg Cass officially introduced the initiative.
The bill would create a new Ministry of Artificial Intelligence to oversee the country’s artificial intelligence efforts and completely ban the creation of “superintelligence” systems that could pose a threat to humanity. The bill would require the new ministry to temporarily halt the development of more advanced artificial intelligence systems until general federal security standards and regulations are firmly established.
Parliamentarians say these measures are a necessary step to prevent technologies that could escape human control and act independently. It is also reported that some employees of the world’s leading technology companies have supported the initiative.
