On October 13, a regular meeting of the Subcommittee on Scientific and Technical Cooperation of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was held in Wuhan, Hubei Province, People’s Republic of China. Allaberdy Ashirov, President of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and Turkmen co-chair of the Subcommittee, and Zhang Guangjun, Vice Minister of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China and Chinese co-chair, chaired the meeting.
In accordance with the agenda, a review of the work completed since the previous meeting of the subcommittee was conducted, and the successful implementation of the agreements reached and the implementation of effective cooperation in several areas by research institutions and specialists of the two countries were noted.
The following priority areas for bilateral cooperation in science and technology were identified: the implementation of scientific achievements in the oil and gas and energy industries; scientific exchange in the development of petrochemical technologies and nanomaterials; strengthening the academic base and improving practical skills in the field of artificial intelligence; continued cooperation in reducing seismic risks; exchange of experience in the implementation of advanced methods of synthetic biology and precision gene editing in the development of traditional agricultural microorganisms; combating desertification and preserving biodiversity; cooperation in the field of cotton breeding and water-saving irrigation systems.
An agreement was reached on developing practical cooperation and implementing joint research projects in the above-mentioned key areas.
During the meeting, the “Program for Scientific, Technical and Innovative Cooperation for 2026–2028 between the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China” and its Plan, signed in April 2026, were highly praised.
In order to further strengthen the legal framework for cooperation, the Protocol of the Third Meeting of the Subcommittee on Scientific and Technical Cooperation of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation was signed following the meeting.
