Iraq’s independent High Electoral Commission announced the end of voting nationwide and the closure of polling stations.
The commission reported that no technical or administrative irregularities were detected during the elections. A total of
7744 candidates competed for 329 parliamentary seats in Iraq’s national elections.
The parliamentary elections in Iraq will mark the beginning of the process of electing a president, a largely symbolic position reserved for the Kurds, and of selecting a new prime minister. Since these two processes are carried out based on political consensus, they could continue for several months.
