US President Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming artificial intelligence (AI) in US federal government terminology to “super intelligence.” According to Armenpress, the document was distributed by the White House press service on September 29.
The document states that “the terminology used by the federal government must reflect the transformative capabilities of these technologies and the boundless opportunities they offer the American people.” “In this regard, the term ‘superintelligence’ more accurately captures the promise, potential, and rapidly evolving capabilities of these technologies,” Trump’s order states.
According to the document, departments and other US government agencies are instructed, “to the extent permitted by law,” to use the term “superintelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence” in official correspondence, public statements, websites, reports, and other non-legislative documents. Furthermore, the order does not require amendments to regulations that already contain the term AI. Trump has previously stated that he considers the name “artificial intelligence” “unfortunate and inaccurate.” According to the American leader, these developments should be called “superintelligence.”
On September 29, Trump also hosted the heads of leading AI companies at the White House, who signed an agreement to strengthen domestic oversight of AI models.
